Today is World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day. A day dedicated to book lovers around the globe, this day is dedicated to promote reading habits, publishing and copyright.
First observed on April 23, 1995, it is an annual event organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Many programmes are organised today centered around reading sessions, book promotion, author meets and book launches to celebrate the love for books.
The world is celebrating the International Day for Book Reading but a majority of the students in Pakistan are not aware of this day because book reading is generally avoided by the students and common citizens here.
According to the latest survey conducted by the Gallup and Gillani Foundation Pakistan, 75% of Pakistanis are not reading any book at all; only 9% are avid readers.
